Management of vacuum on milking robot

Flow-Responsive Milking (FRM) for VMS is a new approach to milk dairy cows. With FRM for VMS, DeLaval adjusts the vacuum level at the teat end to the milk flow rate. The system's vacuum level is set at 50 kPa, and throughout the milking process, FRM controls the vacuum level to ensure it is constantly at 45 kPa under each teat. The goal of this technology is to save milking time while ensuring the best milking comfort for the cow and maintaining teat health.
The technical principle of FRM is based on a system with 5 solenoids, each connected to a vacuum sensor. One is dedicated to the preparation cup, and the other four are dedicated to the four milking cups. They are used to dynamically control the vacuum level under each teat. When the milk ejection rate is at its maximum and the vacuum sensor detects a drop in the vacuum level, the solenoid slightly closes to compensate for this drop, allowing the milk to drain more quickly into the receiving chamber and saving milking time.
