Race Salers à l'honneur au SPACE 2025

A day dedicated to beef breeds events

The Salers breed was in the spotlight this year, with a National Challenge.

Originating from Massif Central, with over 210 000 cattle heads, Salers is france's fourth suckler breed.
This hardy breed thrives in difficult terrain and climates with wide temperature variations. Its ability to adapt, its autonomy in calving and its diet based on forage and grass make it an easy, autonomous and profitable breed to manage. Finally, its high milk production also makes it the best of mothers, enabling it to nurse its calves with little or no supplementation.
Its products - meat and cheese - express the full know-how of grassland systems, and satisfy the quality demands of consumers.

To round off this wonderful day, a multi-breed auction of beef-quality suckling females was held. Every suckling breed exhibited at SPACE was represented at this sale.
7 races laitières en compétition

Interregional competitions and a high quality multi-breed auction

The Montbéliarde was also in the spotlight in 2025, with its “Miss Montbéliarde” competition. The competition will be open exclusively to females in 1st lactation.

Montbéliarde, France's 2nd-largest dairy breed with 600,000 females, continues to delight breeders at home and abroad, as it continues to expand its influence in France and abroad. Its genetic heritage is highly adaptable. The Montbéliarde is a mixed breed, predominantly dairy, capable of producing not only large quantities of milk, but also milk of the highest quality.

The Génomic Élite sale concluded the day. A benchmark event in France and Europe, every year this sale highlights the quality and diversity of French breeding on a global scale.

The 7 dairy and mixed breeds were once again represented: Jersiaise, Prim'Holstein, Normande, Pie Rouge, Brune, Montbéliarde and Simmental.
Challenge Prim'Holstein France au SPACE 2025

Prim'Holstein France Challenge and the Multi-Breed Dairy Supreme Championship

In 2025, SPACE has partnered forces with Prim'Holstein Atlantique to launch an annual initiative aimed at opening up the Prim'Holstein competition to regions outside the Prim'Holstein Atlantique zone, namely: Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Nouvelle Aquitaine, Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Some twenty places were reserved for these regions, enabling a broader national representation.

Inter-regional competitions for the Brune, Jersiaise and Pie Rouge breeds were held on the same day.

Thursday ended with the Inter-Dairy Breed Championship, where the 7 great dairy champions returned to the ring to compete for the title of SPACE 2025 Supreme Champion. It is the very beautiful Susette, from came from Maine-et-Loire, a Brown Swiss breed, who won this very prestigious distinction of Supreme Champion 2025.
11 races ovines et caprines au SPACE

A continuous exhibition in the sheep/goat tent

The SPACE animal show is also a showcase for all animals, throughout the 3 days of the show. In addition to Hall 1 for cattle, 11 breeds of sheep and goats were exhibited under the ovine-caprine tent, which is very popular with international visitors. 3 sheep breed were on show: Rouge de l'Ouest, Suffolk and Roussin de la Hague.

All the animals of all breeds that participate in SPACE had been selected by committees throughout the summer. Having an animal selected for SPACE is a great source of pride for breeders.

It was a great source of pride to judge one of Europe’s most prestigious competitions, to discover some of the finest French cows and, above all, to share my passion for Holsteins with my son Henry. Thank you for your trust.
