Automated detection of lesions and sex on pig carcasses
PIG’SCAN is an automated, AI-powered system for analyzing pig carcasses, designed to monitor animal welfare, tail biting, and health indicators in slaughterhouses.
It performs synchronized multi-view acquisition (back, head, and tail area) to automatically quantify tail length, tail biting lesions, dorsal scratches, signs of fighting, transport-related injuries, and certain potential indicators of animal abuse. Thanks to its machine vision algorithms and RFID traceability, it transforms previously subjective observations into statistically usable digital data. Analyzing the carcass backs identifies scratches, impacts, and lesions that may reveal problems related to stress, transport, animal density, or husbandry practices.
It provides standardized and reproducible measurements, automatic archiving of visual evidence, a reduction in manual monitoring workload, and concrete support for CSR and animal welfare initiatives.
