Présentations animales au SPACE
Three events will mark the 2026 edition of Salon Génétique. SPACE will host a National Rouge des Prés breed on Tuesday, September 15, a National Challenge in the Normande breed and a National Vendéen Sheep, on Wednesday, September 17.

13 interregional competitions, genetic presentations and inter-breed auctions will also complete the program for cattle and sheep-goats.

The dairy and beef sales, which continue to grow in size, will be held at different times. The sale of beef-quality females will conclude Tuesday, September 15, a day entirely dedicated to beef breeds. The inter-breed Genomic Elite sale, for dairy and dual-purpose breeds, will take place on Wednesday, September 16.

530 cattle from 13 different breeds will take turns in the main ring during the 3 days of the show. 150 animals from about ten sheep and goat breeds will also be present.

**Tuesday, 15 September: Beef Cattle Day and the National Rouge des Prés Show**

The Rouge des Prés breed will be in the spotlight this year and will host a National Challenge.

As an emblem of western France, the Rouge des Prés breed is featured at SPACE 2026 with its National Show. Originating from a historic cross in 1830 between the British Durham breed and the local Mancelle breed, this hardy and docile breed stands out for its exceptional size and strong maternal qualities. It produces outstanding beef, recognised under the AOP Maine-Anjou for its flavour and unique marbling. Managed by the SICA Domaine Rouge des Prés, based in the breed’s historic cradle, it benefits from a rigorous selection scheme focused on zootechnical performance, and in particular on a unique and essential criterion: feed efficiency.

Strongly rooted in its territory, with 80% of the herd located in the Pays de la Loire region, the breed will be showcased in the ring from 1:00 p.m. A total of 74 animals will compete in this major event, alongside the “Excellence Bouchère” sale and farm visits designed to promote this outstanding expertise to international professionals.

Earlier in the day, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., five beef cattle breeds will take part in an interregional competition or be presented: Charolaise, Limousine, Blonde d’Aquitaine, Parthenaise, and Salers.

To close the day, a livestock auction of beef animals will be held. Each beef breed showcased at SPACE will be represented in this sale. Buyers—mainly butchers and meat processors—will compete to bid on these animals, which will later reach their retail counters at the end of the year, during the festive season.
This represents a great opportunity to offer customers high-quality products, the result of the passionate work of livestock farmers.

**Wednesday, 16 September: the National Normande Challenge and the must-see Genomic Elite sale**

The Normande breed will also be in the spotlight. From 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., 90 females from all over France will take part in the National Normande Challenge, showcasing the full genetic richness and diversity of the breed.

A leading dual-purpose breed, the Normande has established itself as a relevant solution to the economic challenges faced by dairy farms today. In a context where beef value is becoming an increasingly important source of farm income, it offers a unique balance between dairy performance and meat quality, within a sustainable model based on grazing systems that are increasingly sought after by consumers.

On this day, other breeds will also animate the show ring through interdepartmental competitions, including Montbéliarde, Simmental, and Pie Rouge.

The Wednesday programme will conclude with the Genomic Elite sale, taking place at 5:30 p.m. A benchmark event in France, this auction highlights every year the quality and diversity of French livestock breeding on a European scale, featuring the participation of seven dairy and dual-purpose breeds: Jersiaise, Holstein, Normande, Pie Rouge, Brune, Montbéliarde, and Simmental.

This year’s ambition is to offer around twenty heifers, with bidding available both online and in person in the SPACE show ring, as well as several lots of sexed embryos sold online until the end of the exhibition.
Challenge Prim'Holstein France au SPACE 2025

Prim'Holstein France Challenge and the Multi-Breed Dairy Supreme Championship

The SPACE exhibition, in partnership with Prim’Holstein Atlantique, is renewing the France Holstein Challenge. The Holstein competition is open to regions outside the Prim’Holstein Atlantique area, namely: Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Around twenty places are reserved for these territories, ensuring broader national representation.

In 2026, the France Holstein Challenge will bring together 170 cows carefully selected from each French region. This large-scale event is highly anticipated by Holstein genetics enthusiasts.

Other interregional competitions will also take place that day, featuring the Brune and Jersiaise breeds.

The Thursday programme will conclude with the inter-breed dairy championship, where the seven top dairy champions will return to the ring to compete for the title of Supreme Champion of SPACE 2026.
11 races ovines et caprines au SPACE

A continuous exhibition will be held under the Sheep and Goats marquee, along with a National Mouton Vendéen Show.

The animal presentations at SPACE also include a full livestock exhibition throughout the three days of the show. In addition to Hall 1 for cattle, the sheep and goats marquee—highly frequented by international visitors—will feature 10 sheep and goat breeds on display. The National Mouton Vendéen Show will take place in the afternoon. This French sheep breed, originating from western France, is known for its meat production qualities and hardiness.

All animals from every breed featured at SPACE are selected by committees throughout the summer. Having an animal selected for the event is a great source of pride for farmers.

Their experience

It was a great source of pride to judge one of Europe’s most prestigious competitions, to discover some of the finest French cows and, above all, to share my passion for Holsteins with my son Henry. Thank you for your trust.
