A packed three-day programme

SPACE 2026 hosted a National Show for the Rouge des Prés breed, a National Challenge for the Normande breed and a National Show for Vendée sheep. There were 13 inter-regional competitions, genetic presentations and inter-breed auctions.

In addition, the dairy and beef sales, which continue to grow in scale, took place, including: the sale of high-quality beef females and the inter-breed Genomic Elite sale for dairy and dual-purpose breeds.

530 head of cattle from 13 different breeds were showcased in the main ring over the three days of the show. 170 animals from six sheep breeds and two goat breeds were also present.

Race Salers à l'honneur au SPACE 2025

**Tuesday, 15 September: Beef Cattle Day and the National Rouge des Prés Show**

  • A symbol of the West, the Rouge des Prés breed took centre stage at SPACE 2026 with the staging of its National Show. Originating from the historic cross-breeding carried out in 1830 between the British Durham breed and the local Mancelle breed, this hardy and docile breed is distinguished by its exceptional size and excellent maternal qualities. It produces exceptional meat, recognised by the Maine-Anjou PDO for its flavour and unique marbling. Managed by SICA Domaine Rouge des Prés, based in the breed’s historic birthplace, it benefits from a rigorous selection programme focused on zootechnical performance and, in particular, on a unique and essential criterion for the breed: feed efficiency.

Deeply rooted in its region, with 80 per cent of the herd located in the Pays de la Loire region, the breed entered 74 animals into the competition and organises an ‘Excellence Bouchère’ auction as well as farm visits designed to showcase this outstanding expertise to international professionals.

Five beef breeds were entered in the inter-regional competition or on show: the Charolais, Limousin, Blonde d’Aquitaine, Parthenaise and Salers breeds.

Finally, a livestock auction was held, featuring all the suckler breeds represented at the show. Every suckler breed exhibited at SPACE will be represented at this sale. Buyers – butchers and processors – will be keen to bid on these animals, which will reach their shop counters by the end of the year, in time for the festive season. This is a wonderful opportunity to share with their customers products of the very highest quality, the result of the breeders’ passionate work.

The National Normande Challenge and the must-see Genomic Elite sale

  • 90 female Normande cattle took part in the National Normande Challenge.

  • The Normande, the quintessential crossbreed, has established itself today as a relevant solution to the economic challenges facing dairy farms. At a time when meat production is playing an increasingly significant role in farm income, it offers a unique balance between dairy performance and meat quality within a model of sustainability and a grazing system that is increasingly sought after by consumers.

Inter-departmental competitions were held for three breeds: Montbéliarde, Simmental and Pie Rouge.

The Genomic Elite Auction, a leading event in France, showcases the quality and diversity of French livestock breeding on a European scale every year, featuring seven dairy and dual-purpose breeds: Jersey, Holstein, Normande, Pie Rouge, Brown Swiss, Montbéliarde and Simmental.

Around twenty heifers, online and in-person auctions, as well as several lots of sexed embryos sold online until the end of the show, were on offer.
Challenge Prim'Holstein France au SPACE 2025

Prim'Holstein France Challenge and the Multi-Breed Dairy Supreme Championship

  • SPACE, in partnership with Prim’Holstein Atlantique, has relaunched the Challenge France Prim’Holstein. This competition is open to regions outside the Prim’Holstein Atlantique area, namely: Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Around twenty places are reserved for these regions, ensuring broader national representation.

In 2026, the Challenge France Prim’Holstein brought together 170 cows selected from every region of France. A major event, eagerly anticipated by enthusiasts of Holstein genetics.

Other inter-regional competitions will also take place on this day, featuring the Brown and Jersey breeds.

Thursday will draw to a close with the Inter-Breed Dairy Championship, where the seven Grand Dairy Champions will return to the ring to compete for the title of SPACE 2026 Supreme Champion.

A permanent exhibition in the Sheep and Goats marquee and a National Vendée Sheep Show

In the sheep and goat marquee, which is very popular with international visitors, six breeds of sheep and two breeds of goat will be on display. The National Mouton Vendéen show also took place; this French sheep breed, native to the west of the country, is renowned for its meat-producing qualities and hardiness.

All animals of all breeds taking part in SPACE are selected by panels throughout the summer. Having an animal selected for SPACE is a source of great pride for breeders.
