Mobile and web app for formulating rations for dairy cows in Africa
How can balanced and economically viable feed rations be formulated for dairy cattle, taking into account available feed resources, genetic types, climatic conditions, and local farming practices? CIRAD and INRAE offer Jaɓnde, a digital decision-support tool available as a free Android mobile and web application, designed to help agricultural technicians support African dairy farmers in formulating individual feed rations for dairy cattle. Adapted to the conditions of African farms, Jaɓnde optimizes animal nutrition directly in the field, integrating local feed resources, animal genetic types (zebu, taurine, and crossbred), feeding practices (free grazing and trough feeding), and farm economic constraints. It allows for nutritionally balanced individual rations (meeting the cow's energy, protein, and water requirements) while optimizing diet costs.
