Dynamic Sorting & Multiphase Feeding in large groups
optiSORT Feeding is a new feeding concept designed for large-group finishing systems. It combines dynamic sorting of pigs at each feeding area visit with multiphase feeding (4 to 10 different diets). Pigs of the same age group are segmented into 2 to 8 homogeneous subgroups by weight, significantly reducing variability and allowing better feed planning.
This system is made possible by the new-generation optiSORT NG station, now equipped with a 3D camera that accurately estimates each pig’s weight at every passage, monitors individual growth (with RFID), and soon, evaluates body condition (muscle/fat profile).
Sorting can be based on weight, growth, or body composition.
Each group receives a diet tailored to its nutritional needs, improving performance and reducing waste.
This patented concept, developed from a 2020 thesis, offers gains of €0.15 to €1.20 per pig depending on equipment level (with or without RFID), while improving batch uniformity and sustainability. It also suits farmers aiming to improve collectively without switching to individual feeding.
